| contents | A Model Curriculum for the Education and Training of Archivists in Automation: A RAMP Study. Fishbein, M. H. Archives Curriculum Design Curriculum Development Data Processing Developing Nations Guidelines Information Scientists Information Storage Library Automation Library Education This RAMP (Records and Archives Management Programme) study is intended for people involved in planning and conducting archival and records management training; for individual archivists and records managers interested in professional development through continuing education programs; and for all information professionals interested in learning of the extent to which education in automation has been and is being promoted as an essential part of the training of archivists and records managers. The basic objective of this study is to formulate guidelines for an automated data processing (ADP) curriculum for archivists. A brief summary of the development of ADP instruction for archivists, documentalists, and to a lesser extent, historians, has been included. Information about the demands for and the supply of instructional media is included. The curriculum was prepared to meet the needs of archivists in developing countries. Questionnaires and correspondence reveal that only a small portion of the profession has adequate ADP instruments to meet current needs. Technology is mentioned only to the degree that it is included in the guidelines. Following the introduction, the document includes the following sections: Development of Instruction for Information Scientists; Status of Instruction for Archivists; Rationale and Guidelines for an Archival Curriculum; Syllabi; and Conclusion.
