Cataloging Foreign Countries Library Collections Library Equipment Library Facilities Library Material Selection Library Materials Nonprint Media Public Libraries Based mainly on the experiences of seven Dutch public libraries during a 5-year study, this report discusses issues related to the integration of audiovisual materials and equipment into existing library collections. Following a brief introduction, its contents are divided into chapters: (1) Collection Building; (2) Processing; (3) Cataloguing; (4) Accommodating Audiovisual Materials; (5) The Lending of Audiovisual Materials; (6) The Equipment; (7) Use of Materials and Equipment in the Library; (8) Lay-Out of the Library; (9) Staff; and (10) Future Expectations. Topics addressed include the range of possible audiovisual materials, selection aids, acquisition, supply, withdrawals, composition of the collection, standardization, standards of the collection, suggestions for basic collections, materials processing, storage materials, integration philosophies, music and non-music collections, the children's department, open and closed access, public demand, borrowers, lending conditions, theft prevention, collection control, compensation for loss or damage, selection criteria, maintenance, furniture, staff requirements, and staff training. The final chapter presents 17 conclusions and 14 recommendations for the Dutch Centre for Public Libraries and Literature (NBLC) and Dutch public libraries. (JB)
