  • A Report to the Director of Libraries, on the Interlibrary Loan Service Offered at George Mason University. Connors, Maureen Academic Libraries Higher Education Interlibrary Loans Library Cooperation Library Personnel Library Research Library Services Library Statistics Library Surveys Program Descriptions Shared Library Resources A survey of the ten university libraries considered to be most comparable to George Mason University (GMU) in interlibrary loan (ILL) activity was undertaken for comparison purposes. To develop a series of recommendations for GMU with respect to ILL, the following areas were considered and are addressed in this report: (1) Divisional Responsibility for ILL Service; (2) Patron Use; (3) Fill Rate, Standards of Service and Turnaround Time; (4) Workflow; (5) Automation, Equipment and Location; (6) Costs of ILL Service; (7) Fees to GMU Patrons; (8) Charges to Borrowing Libraries; (9) Resource Sharing in the Consortium Environment; (10) Resource Sharing in the State of Virginia; and (11) Staffing. Specific recommendations are provided at the end of each section, and additional recommendations for policies and procedures are summarized in a concluding statement. A bibliography and seven statistical comparative charts are included. (THC)
