Following an introduction, the guidelines are divided into 10 major sections: (1) descriptive cataloging of books, including main entry, body of the card, and added entries; (2) subject cataloging of books, including subject heading lists, use of MeSH, subject authority file, subject headings for persons and places, subheadings, and revision of subject headings; (3) classification of books; (4) serials, including descriptive and subject cataloging and classification; (5) catalog card set, including main entry card, bibliographic added entry cards, subject added entry cards, and shelf list card; (6) sources of cataloging information, including preprinted catalog cards and sources for copy cataloging; (7) catalog card reproduction; (8) filing catalog cards; (9) cataloging statistics; and (10) labeling books and journals. A list of full bibliographic and ordering information for all publications mentioned in the text is appended. (THC)
