Directory listings are published in a companion volume, California Library Directory. For fiscal year 1984-1985, 990 libraries of an estimated total of 1,200 California libraries returned annual report forms; their responses are reported in this document. Presented in the statistical tables are measures of activities (interlibrary loans borrowed and lent, circulation, total volumes, etc.), income, expenditures, staffing, and collections. These data are organized by library type and area population. Also provided is a state summary of library statistics for fiscal years 1981-82 through 1984-85 which includes total operating expenditures and salaries; library materials; full-time staff equivalents; total volumes; circulation; interlibrary loan borrowing and lending; and total number of reference questions answered during the year. A list of the libraries represented concludes this report. (THC)
