| contents | Trends in Funding Higher Education in Maryland, FY 1976-FY 1985. Postsecondary Education Research Reports. Breslin, Janice Capital Outlay (for Fixed Assets) Comparative Analysis Educational Finance Expenditure per Student Expenditures Financial Policy Fiscal Capacity Higher Education Resource Allocation School Taxes State Aid State Colleges Teacher Salaries Trend Analysis Tuition Trends in Maryland's support of higher education during fiscal years 1976 to 1985 are reported, along with comparisons to other states. Attention is also directed to shifts in the distribution of state appropriations among the various segments of higher education and key trends in expenditure patterns at the four-year public institutions. It is noted that Maryland's support to higher education is below the national average, even though the state's tax revenues rank above the national average. While tuition and fee rates are higher than rates of similar colleges and universities in other states, there are low levels of state financial aid. Statistical tables include: a comparison of Maryland state and local appropriations to public higher education per student with those of other states; a comparison of Maryland tax capacity and revenue to those of other states, full-time undergraduate tuition and mandatory charges for Maryland residents at Maryland's colleges; state scholarship aid; state appropriations per full-time equivalent student; expenditures by fund source at four-year public institutions; average faculty salaries by rank, expenditures for library books and periodicals; and fuel, utility, and nonfuel expenditures in the physical plant program.
