  • Standards for School Library Media Programs in Maryland. Elementary Secondary Education Learning Resources Centers Library Facilities Library Standards Media Selection Program Descriptions Program Evaluation School Libraries State Programs State Standards Designed to be used as guidelines in the review process for school library media programs in Maryland, these standards were adopted by the Maryland State Board of Education in an effort to improve, support, and encourage school media programs throughout the state. The statement of purpose for the school library media program is provided, and standards governing the program's philosophy, goals and objectives, instruction, staffing, resources and resource services, facilities, and evaluation are presented. Criteria statements following each standard are designed to guide school personnel in determining an appropriate rating for each standard. A brief explanation of the school library media program is also provided, and the review process is summarized. Four appendices present additional information about school library media centers: (1) definitions; (2) guidelines for basic collections of material and equipment; (3) recommended space allocation; and (4) staff assignments. A listing of the School Library Media Standards Committee Members is also provided. (KM)
