Accessibility (for Disabled) Building Plans Energy Conservation Facility Expansion Facility Improvement Facility Planning Facility Requirements Federal Aid Library Facilities Library Planning Physical Mobility Public Libraries This report highlights 19 of the 48 recently completed public library construction projects in Michigan which received partial funding from the 1983 Emergency Jobs Act. The grants were administered under Title II of the Library Services and Construction Act (LSCA). Introductory material includes listings of the State of Michigan Legislative Council members and alternate members, the Library of Michigan Board of Trustees, state library administrators, and members of the LSCA Advisory Council. Public library construction in fiscal 1983 and the responses of Michigan public libraries to the 1983 Emergency Job Act are summarized, and the following LSCA project reports are presented: (1) New Construction (Auburn Area Branch Library/Bay County Library System, Bridgman Public Library, Hopkins Public Library, Mackinaw Area Public Library, Suttons Bay Area Public Library, and Taylor Community Library/Wayne County Library); (2) Additions and Renovations (Armada Free Public Library, Fowlerville Public Library, Lenawee County Library, Marguerite deAngeli Branch Library/Lapeer County Library, Peter White Public Library, Plymouth Public Library, and Watervliet District Library); (3) Barrier-Free Accessibility (Comstock Township Library, Farmington Community Library, and Memphis City Library); and (4) Energy Conservation (Bedford Branch Library/Monroe County Library System, Jonesville District Library, and Wheatland Township Library). Also included are two papers: "An Alternative to Library Building Standards" (Anders C. Dahlgren) and "Assembling Dreams and Reality: The Job of the Library Building Consultant" (Mary H. Zenke). A selected bibliography on planning library buildings and a summary table of Michigan 1983 LSCA Title II projects are also provided. (KM)
