- Statistics for Librarians. Presentation of Data. Final Report to F.E.U. Blackie, Edna Costs Course Content Course Evaluation Distance Education Fees Foreign Countries Higher Education Library Education Part Time Students Pilot Projects Professional Continuing Education Questionnaires Statistics This report describes the development of a distance learning curriculum package designed to teach the skills of presenting, analyzing, and evaluating statistical information to middle-management-level librarians and information officers. Originally developed by the School of Librarianship and Information Studies at Newcastle upon Tyne Polytechnic because of problems encountered by librarians in obtaining time off from work to attend short courses or pursue a degree on a part-time basis, the full-scale course now lasts for 13 weeks, and a certificate is awarded upon its completion. The project development process is outlined, research methodology is explained, project funding is considered, and further developments are discussed. It is concluded that the project has demonstrated the possibility of developing a distance learning course in data presentation and has established a model that can be used in other subject areas in librarianship and other fields. The following information is included in five appendices: (1) an outline of the course; (2) individual unit evaluation form; (3) pilot course final evaluation form; (4) Interim Report to the Further Education Unit (FEU); and (5) the September 13, 1983 (full-scale) course evaluation form.
