- Public Services Study. Final Report. Snowhill, Lucia And Others Academic Libraries Access to Information Higher Education Library Administration Library Automation Library Facilities Library Instruction Library Personnel Library Planning Library Services Self Evaluation (Groups) User Needs (Information) User Satisfaction (Information) This report describes a self-assessment study undertaken by the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) Library which was designed to describe current UCSB Library public services, investigate options and opportunities to enhance these services in anticipation of change, and make recommendations to ensure that the library continues to provide the best possible services to the academic community. The study was conducted in three phases by the Public Services Study team and its five task forces using the Public Services Study Model created by the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), Office of Management Studies (OMS). Library directions are discussed, and an optimal scenario is described, including components of the services and planning structure delineating organization, programs, technology, staffing, and facilities. An examination of study findings includes discussions of the issues and options of technology and access, library users, user education and awareness, organization, building library personnel, facilities, and planning; and recommendations grouped under the same broad themes follow. Study findings are presented graphically in four tables, and appendices include the study team charge, study methodology, task force charges, a listing of task force members, and a summary of reports issued as part of the Public Services Study.
