The following papers are included: "The State of the Art in 1985," by Robert Craig; "Adult Education and Libraries: A Partnership?" by Anthony Cooke; "Adult Basic Education and Libraries," by Pablo Foster; "Library Support for Independent Learners," by Vernon Smith; "Open Learning: The Role of the Public Library," by Nigel Paine; "A Large Number of Small Steps: Broadcasting and Libraries," by James Boyle; "A Community Educator's View," by Peter Kearney; and "A Librarian's View," by James Orr. Also included are an introduction by Elisabeth Gerver, a paper entitled "Prologue: From Incidental Learning" by Graham Wilson, and a paper entitled "Epilogue: An Educational Force" by Arthur Maltby.
