Resolutions carried at the end of the seminar are noted, and the full text is provided for the opening address, which summarizes the activities of the Commonwealth Tertiary Education Commission Standing Committee on External Studies, and the following seminar papers: (1) "Guidelines and Guidance--Galvanizing the Library Service" (C. Crocker); (2) "Library Support in the Open University" (K. Harry); (3) "The William Merrylees Library and External Students" (V. Muldins); (4) "SACAE (South Australian College of Advanced Education) Library Services to External Students" (J. Gray); (5) "Library Services to External Students in the Australian Regional Colleges" (J. Martin); (6)"Student Support in Lightly Populated Regions" (D. Meakin); (7) "Reference Services for External Students" (M. Maticka); (8) "The External Students' Perception of Formal Reader Education Programs" (C. Grimison); and (9) "The Winter-Cameron Report Two Years On" (M. Cameron). Biographical notes on the speakers and chairpersons and a listing of seminar participants are also included. Most of these papers describe services provided by Australian universities and colleges, but papers on programs at the Open Learning Institute in British Columbia and the British Open University are included.
