Data were obtained through interviews with the documents librarians at 12 academic libraries selected as having active documents programs on the basis of their responses to a brief survey. The interviews focused on the following aspects of publicity: (1) the preparation and use of guides, bookmarks, flyers, bibliographies, accessions lists, and newsletters; (2) the role of the documents department in providing instruction, orientation, and workshops on documents; and (3) methods of making individuals and librarians in the community aware of the documents collection. Various techniques used to publicize government documents collections are detailed, and recommendations for further study are presented. The survey instrument is appended. (KM)
