contents Vision 2000. Looking Ahead at New Jersey Libraries. A Report to the Commissioner of Education Projecting the Status of Library Service in New Jersey by the Year 2000. Weaver, Barbara F. Access to Information Blindness Disabilities Elementary Secondary Education Financial Support Institutional Libraries Library Networks Library Planning Library Services Public Libraries School Libraries Special Libraries State Libraries This document examines the various factors that affect library services in New Jersey, projects the status of the statewide system in the year 2000, and examines the implications for action by the State Library and the Department of Education. Listings of members of the State Board of Education and the Division of the State Library Advisory Council are provided, and societal trends affecting libraries and the development of library service in New Jersey to 1985 are described. A section on goals for library service in New Jersey includes a discussion of the present status, future plans, and implications for action for the following five major goal areas: (1) development and maintenance of basic library services, including public libraries, school media centers, academic libraries, institutional libraries, and special libraries; (2) access to library materials and information and the statewide library network; (3) State Library services, including research services, statewide library development, and service to blind and physically handicapped residents; (4) funding; and (5) planning. Finally, assumptions underlying future projections and issues of concern over the next 15 years are summarized, and the status of the five goal areas in the year 2000 is projected. References are also provided. (KM)
