A concise summary discusses survey results, which indicated the prevalence of three basic trends: (1) continuing changes in the organization and staffing of collection development; (2) increasing emphasis on formal training and liaison with teaching faculty; and (3) growing interest in the development and execution of studies on the cost, performance, and analysis of the collection development/management function. Selected survey results are provided; and original documents submitted from ARL libraries include organization charts of 14 collection development units; vacancy announcements and position descriptions from 15 libraries; examples of orientation, training, and other aids from 10 libraries; and study reports from 3 libraries. A SPEC kit order form and evaluation form are also included. (KM) |
