The Texas Reading Club program is briefly described, and guidelines for organizing a reading program are provided under the following headings: (1) Why Plan? (2) Goals, Objectives, and Activities; (3) Program Activities; (4) Estimate What You Need (Books and Audiovisuals, People, Space/Facilities, Supplies and Equipment, and Budget); (5) Scheduling; (6) Participation; (7) Guidelines (Rules and Regulations, Registration, Contracts, and Recordkeeping); (8) Evaluation; and (9) Publicity. Brief bibliographies of books and journal articles on planning, program activities, and publicity are provided, and appendices include examples of reading club forms and a month-by-month listing of programming tasks.
