The first of the guide's five sections offers the goals, philosophy, and implementation guidelines of the program. Section 2, entitled Early Childhood Education, offers parents information on reading resources for preschool and elementary school children, including a list of books popular with very young children. Section 3 is a sample newsletter from Parkway Reading Center for parents of children in grades K-2. Section 4 describes the Parent Volunteer Reading Program for grades K-6, and includes ideas for activities that parents and children can do together. The section also includes letters about and descriptions of Partners In Education (PIE) events. The last section, for parents of high school age children, contains suggestions for ways to encourage teenagers to read, written versions of presentations delivered at a local parent-teacher organization meeting, suggestions to improve reading and writing skills, information on teenage depression and drug use, and various newsletters and school concert programs.
