The reports present the main features in the training and education of children's librarians in nine countries representing various stages of library development and different economic systems. In addition, each report is prefaced by a brief description of the economic, educational, and geographic conditions of the country being discussed. These reports provide descriptions of children's librarianship in the following countries: (1) Australia (Barbara Poston-Anderson); (2) Colombia (Margarita Munoz); (3) Cuba (Olinta Ariosa Morales); (4) German Democratic Republic (Irmgard Dressler); (5) Nigeria (Virginia W. Dike); (6) Norway (Inger Cathrine Spangen); (7) Spain (Nuria Ventura); (8) the United States (Selma Richardson); and (9) Zimbabwe (Roger Stringer). Also included is "Education and Training--Why and How? An outline of a curriculum for the training of children's librarians that was distributed to the contributors of these articles is appended. (KM) |
