Buchanan, William And Others Academic Libraries Archives Evaluation Criteria Government Publications Higher Education Library Acquisition Library Collection Development Nonprint Media Position Papers Reference Materials Serials Study Guides Textbooks Concerned mainly with the acquisition of knowledge in its various forms, both print and nonprint, the Watson Library's collection development policy is designed to support the curriculum needs of Northwestern State University (NSU) in Louisiana and the university's mission of dedication to the creation, dissemination, and acquisition of knowledge. Following a discussion of collection development and NSU's mission statement, the policy includes the Library Bill of Rights; a definition of levels of collection intensity, including research level, study level, basic level, and duplicates; and a selection criteria chart of priorities for subject/level, intellectual content, potential use, relation to collection, bibliographic considerations, and other factors. In addition, specific policies are included for textbooks; study guides; children's literature; the reading area; reference books; serials; nonprint materials; the Cammie G. Henry Research Center, which includes the University Archives and Special Collections, the Louisiana Collection, and rare books; and government documents. Policies for collection evaluation, gifts, and the selection process are also included. (KM)
