Discussions include proposed legislation intended to improve library services by increasing aid for: (1) public libraries, public library systems, reference and research library resources systems, school library systems, and other libraries; (2) public library system coordinated outreach, literacy, and youth services programs; (3) intersystem cooperation in the development of regional and statewide bibliographic databases and other uses of technology to support resource sharing; and (4) a coordinated effort to conserve and protect information resources of unique value to New York State. Other Regents legislative proposals of interest to libraries and other cultural institutions are also summarized. The text is supplemented with 13 photographs, 10 tables, and 4 maps showing New York library systems. A listing of the Regents of the University of the State of New York and other state officials is also included. (KM)
