Academic Libraries Doctoral Programs Enrollment Higher Education Interlibrary Loans Library Collections Library Expenditures Library Personnel Library Statistics Library Surveys Microforms Questionnaires Research Libraries Statistical Analysis Tables (Data) This report presents data compiled from the 118 United States and Canadian research libraries that were members of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) during the 1985-86 fiscal year. ARL membership consists of 106 university libraries and 12 public or private, independent research libraries. Following a brief introductory summary of ARL 1985-86 expenditures and a discussion of changes in the presentation and collection of data since the previous year, data tables describe research library collections, interlibrary loans, expenditures, and staffing in fiscal 1986. Additional report sections include: an analysis of selected variables; Ph.D., faculty, and enrollment statistics; a summary of rank order tables for ARL university libraries; and rank order tables for volumes in library, volumes added (gross), current serials (total), microform holdings (total), materials expenditures, salaries and wages expenditures, other operating expenditures, total expenditures, monographs purchased (volumes), expenditures for monographs, serials purchased (titles), expenditures for serials, total items loaned, total items borrowed, professional staff, nonprofessional staff, and total staff. A copy of the ARL statistics questionnaire and footnotes are included. (KM)
