Hardick, Mary Access to Information Cataloging Databases Depository Libraries Government Publications Indexes Scientific and Technical Information Search Strategies This guide is designed to provide aid and support to library staff in finding government scientific and technical reports. Following an introduction to bibliographic sources for the technical report literature, the guide outlines a general search strategy for the retrieval of technical reports and presents an overview of the following five major indices to technical report literature: (1) Government Reports Announcements and Index (GRAI); (2) EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) Publications Bibliography; (3) Energy Research Abstracts (ERA); (4) Scientific and Technical Aerospace Reports (STAR); and (5) the Monthly catalog (MC) of U.S. Government Publications. Databases available for technical report literature searching, duplication among major technical reports indices, and problems inherent in the bibliographic control of technical report literature are also discussed. Six appendices provide additional information on locating government technical documents, sample entries from the major indices, and listings of selected NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and EPA reports available to depository libraries.
