contents Continuing Education for Library and Information Science in the Canadian Context. Horrocks, Norman Adult Education Foreign Countries Graduate Students Higher Education Information Scientists Librarians Library Schools Professional Associations Professional Continuing Education Professional Development Two classic papers on continuing education for professional groups are examined and related to the library/information science field in Canada: (1) "Role of Continuing Education in Current Professional Development" (Cyril Houle, Professor of Adult Education at the University of Chicago); and (2) "Continuing Education in the Professions" (William McGlothlin, Professor of Higher Education at the University of Louisville). A descriptive account of the major existing resources for what is defined as "continuing professional education" as distinct from "continuing education" is presented, with emphasis on educational institutions and professional associations. It is concluded that a national examination of the field is needed as an alternative to the present random approach. (CGD)
