contents Bibliographic Services throughout the World. Supplement 1983-1984 = Les services bibliographiques dans le monde. Supplement 1983-1984. Beaudiquez, Marcelle Cataloging Depository Libraries Foreign Countries Government Libraries Library Catalogs Library Cooperation Library Services National Libraries Program Descriptions Questionnaires Shared Resources and Services Surveys Results from questionnaires investigating bibliographic services and related activities in 93 countries belonging to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (Unesco) are presented in this document. The survey was conducted in 1983-1984 and the data compiled in 1985-1986. Compared to a previous and almost identical survey conducted in 1981-1982, the current report reveals no significant evolution of bibliographic services over the past two years. In fact, 19 out of 93 countries have no bibliographic services at all. Additional findings indicate that: (1) no new bibliographic agencies have been established, although a number of modifications and improvements have been accomplished by some countries; (2) among the 13 countries without a bibliographic system four have legal deposit facilities; (3) five national bibliographies have been introduced, although a number of countries are still without one; (4) annual or quinquennial cumulative volumes continue to be published and automated production of retrospective bibliographies has been successfully implemented by five nations; (5) no new current bibliographies for formats other than monographs have been introduced; and (6) the national library in most countries continues to be responsible for interlibrary cooperation. The report on the survey and the questionnaire used are presented in both French and English; however, descriptions of information services in individual countries as supplied by survey respondents are presented in either French or English. These descriptions make up the major part of the publication. (CGD)
