  • Library Instruction Handbook. Revised Edition. Marsh, Sheila Goff, Linda Abstracts Academic Libraries Assignments Course Integrated Library Instruction Critical Thinking Encyclopedias Evaluation Methods Higher Education Indexes Individualized Instruction Library Facilities Library Services Library Skills Periodicals Reference Materials Research Skills Search Strategies Workbooks The purpose of this handbook is to familiarize the user with the organization of the California State University-Sacramento (CSUS) library. As part of a course requirement, the handbook is designed to provide the student with information necessary to perform assignments in the library independently of librarians and support staff, and as a reference source for the user while a student at CSUS. The four units and self-paced assignments provided cover the following: (1) library facilities and services (self-guided library tour, locating and checking out materials); (2) basic search strategies (search strategies for books and media, using the card catalog effectively, and encyclopedias); (3) periodical literature (periodical indexes and abstracts, newspapers and newspaper indexes); and (4) critical thinking (evaluating sources and research strategies). A glossary and an index are provided, and the assignments that accompany the workbook are attached. (CGD)
