Affective Objectives Behavioral Objectives Cognitive Objectives Course Objectives Curriculum Guides Elementary Education Geography Grade 7 Grade 8 Skill Development Social Studies United States History The goal of this K-8 social studies curriculum guide is to ensure instructional consistency at each grade level and sequential growth in content and process skills. Within the K-6 grade levels, the curriculum objectives are itemized under the discipline areas of geography, history, cultures/ethnicity, citizenship/government, economics, and sociology. The skill levels are identified and include: learning group discussion skills, building map and globe techniques, using of reference materials, developing critical thinking skills, understanding chronology (time), interpreting charts/graphs/diagrams, building vocabulary, strengthening study and research skills. In grade 7 physical and cultural geography are taught while grade 8 covers U.S. history to 1865. The skills for grade 7 and 8 are itemized separately under "Skills for Junior High", and include reading skills, study skills, library skills, intellectual skills, decision making skills, group interaction skills, and social and political participation skills. Nine cognitive objectives, five process objectives, and five affective objectives are presented in a checklist format. (DJC)
