Comparative Analysis Educational Finance Financial Support Higher Education Mathematical Formulas Public Colleges State Legislation State Surveys Statewide Planning A study of higher education funding in Nevada, mandated by state law, is reported. The study focuses on the methods used by other states to fund higher education and investigates these methods' appropriateness or usefulness in Nevada. Representatives of the state university system, education experts, and the general public provided background information, suggestions, and proposals regarding formula funding for higher education. The report contains a copy of the bill establishing the study committee, a summary of the findings and recommendations, and the full text of the study report. The latter consists of a description of the current status of formula funding used in Nevada, a section on areas outlined for review by the University of Nevada System, a review of the university system 10-year plan, a review of formulas used by other states to fund higher education, the committee's recommendations on the university system funding proposal, and a review of potential funding sources to enhance higher education funding in the state. Recommendations are made for formula expansion for higher education support services, formula enrichment for instruction, and formula expansion in other areas, particularly staffing and acquisition of equipment and library resources. The bulk of the report consists of six appendices detailing various aspects of funding formulas for higher education in Nevada and including an analysis of selected tax sources. (MSE) |
