The manual first briefly discusses four aspects of training--planning, preparation, execution, and evaluation--and then provides examples of resources used for training student reference assistants (SRAs). These examples include: (1) an outline of the duties and responsibilities of training coordinators and SRAs; (2) sample letters for responding to queries about employment in the reference department; (3) student work schedules; (4) an SRA information sheet; (5) forms for listing projects; (6) an itinerary for a library tour; (7) copies of worksheets used to test understanding of library procedures together with the answers; (8) copies of OCLC exercises used to test understanding of OCLC procedures and the answers; (9) a library guide on interlibrary loan searching, with sample questions and answers; (10) letters explaining midterm discussions with, and evaluation of, SRAs; and (11) a guide to indexes on current events, with questions and answers on the indexes.
