After acknowledging that community college students have different needs for bibliographic instruction than their counterparts at four-year institutions, the paper highlights a self-paced instructional library skills program at Miami-Dade Community College and a one-hour library skills unit incorporated into remedial courses at Kingsborough Community College in New York. The next section provides brief descriptions of LRC-based developmental education, computer literacy, and computer-assisted instruction programs including LRC involvement in telecourses. In the next section, selected programs are featured, illustrating the various functions performed by LRC's in instructional improvement and development. Concluding comments note the range of programs and services within the two-year college LRC's mandate and point to factors that influence their ability to fulfill their mission. (AAC) |
