Following a brief description of the various awards (or orders), the six U.S. librarians cited for meritorious service and awarded kunsho--either the Order of the Sacred Treasure or Order of the Rising Sun--are introduced through short biographies; Verner W. Clapp; Robert B. Downs; Robert L. Gitler; Foster E. Mohrhardt; Andrew Y. Kuroda; and Daniel J. Boorstin. The document is divided into two parts, offering both English and Japanese versions of the same information. (CGD)
