Card catalog subject headings pertinent to this topic are listed. A representative selection of reference books that are useful for genealogical research is presented. This bibliography is annotated and contains the Reed Library call numbers of each source. A list of books which contain biographical information on residents of western New York, specifically of Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties is included. A list of the library's city directories and relevant periodicals provides further resources. The library holds national and local census data in its microfilm collection. The "Archives of the Holland Land Company, 1789-1869" are maintained on 202 reels of microfilm and contain mostly manuscript records that were accumulated in several regional land offices of the Holland Land Company. The most important sections for genealogical research are listed and descriptions of various sections are provided, as are the inventory and reel numbers of the microfilm. (GEA)
