Access to Information Adolescent Literature Censorship Childrens Literature Content Analysis Court Litigation Elementary Secondary Education Library Material Selection Library Role Public Libraries School Libraries This content analysis examines library science and education literature on censorship in public and public school libraries in the 1980s. The first chapter discusses the organization and activities of right-wing and left-wing pressure groups together with ways in which librarians have responded to their pressure. The distinction between censorship and selection of library materials and the issue of a balanced collection from a conservative viewpoint are considered in the second chapter. The third chapter looks at some titles that have been frequently challenged and reasons censors give for wanting titles removed. The rights of young people regarding access to information are also discussed in this chapter. The next chapter reviews actual experiences of librarians and explores their changing attitudes toward censorship.
