contents Five-Year Technology Plan. Educational Planning Center. Administrators Computer Assisted Instruction Computer Uses in Education Database Management Systems Educational Innovation Educational Planning Elementary Secondary Education Information Technology Library Automation Long Range Planning Microcomputers School Administration Videodisks This 5-year plan is based on "A Comprehensive Plan for Instructional and Administrative Use of Computers in the Virginia Beach Public Schools" ("The Pogrow Report," completed in December 1984) and the "Task Force Report on Information Systems" (completed in July 1988). These reports document the importance of making better use of data, voice, and video technologies to increase staff productivity and student learning. This plan is based on the belief that technology should be applied to the areas of greatest need, in administration as well as instruction. The plan includes a comprehensive student data management system as the highest priority in order to significantly reduce the amount of time teachers, principals, guidance counselors, and school office personnel spend managing student attendance, grade reporting, records, and scheduling, and to free them to spend more time on matters directly related to instruction and student learning. Appendixes include: (1) an implementation plan outlining objectives, dates for implementation, and costs; (2) an organizational chart of personnel involved in implementation; and (3) a 5-year budget summary.
