American Indians Construction Programs Federal Aid Grants Hawaiians Library Acquisition Library Extension Library Facilities Library Personnel Library Services Public Libraries Staff Development This report provides information on the fourth year of funding (fiscal year 1988) of the Library Services and Construction Act (LSCA), Title IV grant programs, which provide appropriations for Indian tribes and for Alu Like, Inc.--the organization recognized by the Governor of Hawaii to serve Hawaiian natives--under two program cycles: Basic Grants and Special Projects. An explanation of the Basic Grants program is presented, with an appended table showing a breakdown of funding by activity for each basic grant. Highlights are then given of each Special Projects award, including a map and a funding summary. Hawaiian Natives Projects, which are funded under the Basic Grant program, are also listed, and information provided for each of 13 projects includes its funding, its objective, and a brief summary of activities to be accomplished. Activities supported by these grants include: (1) library needs assessments; (2) training of library personnel; (3) salaries of library personnel; (4) purchase of library materials; (5) dissemination of information about library services; (6) transportation to provide access to library services; (7) construction, purchase, renovation, and remodeling of library buildings; and (8) contracts to provide library services or to carry out any of the above activities.
