- Strategic Planning Study Team. Final Report. Computer Literacy Computer Networks Computer Uses in Education Higher Education Long Range Planning Needs Assessment Questionnaires School Surveys Technological Advancement Telecommunications This final report presents the results of a University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's (UTC) strategic planning study team, which was charged with documenting computerized services currently available and recommending to the UTC administration areas in which new services should be introduced at the university. A questionnaire was administered to selected faculty and staff (n=70) to pinpoint topics of major concern, and respondents were interviewed to explore their remarks on the completed questionnaires in more depth. Eleven problem areas were identified: (1) access to computing resources; (2) communications and campus-wide computer networking; (3) computer literacy; (4) hardware and software support; (5) faculty rewards to encourage faculty development of courseware and innovative use of computer technologies; (6) hardware; (7) electronic classrooms; (8) library automation; (9) policy and organization; (10) community outreach through computing services; and (11) security. Recommendations and an implementation plan are provided for each problem area. The appendixes, which make up the major part of the report, include records of correspondence; the survey instrument; names and demographics of interviewees; the matrix of analysis of responses; the computer curriculum integration survey; excerpts from the 1988 inventory of courses; hours of operation of computing facilities; and information on the members of the study team.
