contents Library Research Guide. Second Edition. Stebelman, Scott Academic Libraries Government Publications Higher Education Library Instruction Library Skills Periodicals Reference Materials Research Tools Search Strategies Student Research Workbooks Designed to help undergraduate students find information and materials at George Washington University's Gelman Library, this guide teaches skills and concepts necessary to complete a research paper. Further, it is intended to equip students with skills that will help them in business, legal, medical, and other professions where finding information is crucial to job performance. The guide is divided into topical sections addressing six types of research tools: encyclopedias; books; call numbers; periodicals; newspapers; statistical sources; and government documents. Students are instructed about the content and uses of these tools; however, the emphasis is on research strategies. The guide is also designed to function as a diagnostic tool to help teachers determine students' progress on research papers and whether students have retrieved sufficient information and materials to write knowledgeably about their topics. Bibliography worksheets are included, which allow teachers to monitor student progress and suggest sections of the guide for students to examine and use for locating additional information or materials.
