  • Handbook for Local Coordinators: Value-Added, Compact Disk, Union Catalog Test Phase. Townley, Charles Bibliographic Databases College Libraries Higher Education Library Networks Online Catalogs Optical Disks Pilot Projects Research Libraries Union Catalogs In 1988, the Associated College Libraries of Central Pennsylvania received a grant to create a value-added, compact disk, union catalog from the U.S. Department of Education's College Library Technology and Cooperative Grants Program, Title II of the Higher Education Act. Designed to contain, in time, 2,000,830 records from 17 member library databases, the union catalog has been designed to provide virtual research library resources for faculty, students, and staff at participating institutions. The purpose of this user's manual is to provide guidance for local coordinators and individual members during the test phase of catalog development. The manual includes information on the project; project objectives; a description of the test phase; descriptions of processes and procedures to be carried out during the test phase, including product performance, user evaluation, interlibrary loan, and reciprocal borrowing procedures, and strategies for public relations and user education; and forms to be used during the test period.
