  • Colorado State Library and Adult Education Office: 1989 Annual Report. Adult Basic Education Adult Education Adult Literacy Annual Reports Higher Education Library Development Library Education Library Services Lifelong Learning State Aid Noting the State Library and Adult Education Office's (SLAEO) goals of providing leadership in the adult education and library communities and developing, promoting, and delivering lifelong learning opportunities and library services for the people of Colorado, this annual report highlights the agency's activities in four areas: (1) programs providing services directly to the citizens of Colorado; (2) programs to help all types of libraries develop services to their patrons; (3) programs to help literacy programs provide services to their clients; and (4) special projects to accomplish specific yearly goals. Recent projects accomplished with SLAEO support are described. Among them are the initiation of a new American Library Association (ALA)-accredited graduate program in library science (the Emporia in the Rockies program) in cooperation with Emporia State University of Kansas; funding of a statewide telefax network by the Colorado Council of Library Development; the establishment of the Adult Literacy Commission, which was appointed by the State Board of Education to discuss how best to assist the state's 400,000 illiterate people; and working toward a new building for the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. An organizational chart of the SLAEO and a financial summary for fiscal year 1989-1990 are included. (GL)
