Elementary Secondary Education Library Cooperation Library Networks School Libraries Shared Library Resources State Programs Following historical background on the 46 School Library Systems in New York State, the following topics relating to the systems are discussed: (1) mandates set up for the systems by the State Board of Regents; (2) required 3-year Plans of Service which explain how the mandates will be carried out; (3) governance; (4) funding; (5) creation of automated catalogs; (6) access to serials; (7) interlibrary loan procedures; (8) delivery systems for interlibrary loans; (9) cooperative collection development; (10) promotion of awareness of resources and services among teachers and administrators; (11) staff development; and (12) achievements of the school library systems. The recommendations of a 1987 study of the school library systems by King Research are highlighted. (24 references) (MES)
