Academic Libraries Cataloging Classification Elementary Secondary Education Higher Education Instructional Materials Library of Congress Classification The library at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has created a collection of curriculum materials and children's literature for use by education students. These materials are shelved with the education-related books in the L category of the Library of Congress classification scheme. Materials are arranged by subject area and subdivided by publisher so that series fall together. An LZ schedule has been developed with the following subdivisions: language arts, foreign languages, mathematics, fine arts, science, social studies, and non-textbooks. The call number identifies book classification, grade level, publisher, date of publication, and type of material (workbook, teacher's edition, etc.). The complete LZ schedule, the Cutter table for publishers, the grade level table, and a list of call number qualifiers for textbook call numbers are attached. (MSE) |
