Chapter 1, "Entering High School," offers descriptions of course options in all the subject areas of both academic and vocational education, along with advice on studying and on solving problems having to do with coursework. Chapter 3 describes "Special Programs and Activities" including guidance and counseling, career education, the testing program, programs for gifted and talented students, advanced placement and honors programs, remedial programs, summer school, the library media program, the school social work/visiting teacher program, the school psychology program, programs for handicapped students, the school nurse program, homebound and hospital programs, extracurricular activities, and extra costs. Chapter 4 describes a wide variety of different career categories and their educational requirements, and it also provides information on applying for work permits, social security cards, and jobs, as well as interviewing and looking for part-time or summer work.
