  • The Influence of Teachers' Choice of Literature Read Aloud on Students' Free Reading Choices. Henry, Leslie Books Childrens Literature Elementary School Students Grade 3 Literary Genres Primary Education Reading Aloud to Others Reading Material Selection Story Reading Teacher Student Relationship This study investigated whether the choice of literature read aloud by the teacher affected childrens' choices of books in their free reading. Subjects, 13 third grade students, freely selected library books before the study, and then were asked to make choices each week during the 11 weeks of the study in order to determine if the genre being read to the children affected their choices. The teacher read aloud for 10 to 15 minutes each day. Stories read were from traditional literature including myths, legends, fables, and folk-fairy tales. Results seemed to indicate a slight, but not statistically significant, influence. (Two tables of data are included and 36 references are attached.) (SR)
