Issues are addressed under the following headings: (1) Levels of School Library Media Services; (2) Planning (functions of library automation, needs assessment; (3) Database Creation (standardization, weeding, inventory and shelf list, retrospective conversion); (4) Software Selection; (5) Hardware Selection; (6) Installation; (7) Operation and Maintenance; and (8) Developing a Statewide Database (project, rationale, obligations, and implementation). A checklist for a building-level media center profile to help decision-makers choose whether or not to automate is included, as well as a collection of 28 masters for overhead transparencies to be used in presenting the workshop.
