The project was implemented over two semesters and one summer session. Revisions and refinements were made after each semester on the basis of student feedback. In general, cooperative learning was better accepted than the use of multiple texts. Students seemed wary of having to use the reserve library and to make decisions about what was important about the topics for which multiple texts were used. Improvement followed after revisions to this aspect of the course were made, and improvements continued to be made that resulted in more positive student reception of multiple texts. Cooperative learning, though well accepted, needed to be incorporated into the class more than the instructor initially planned. The major revision in this part of the project involved building in more, short, cooperative learning group work with selected course topics that allowed students to practice the process. Both the cooperative learning and multitext aspects of the course continue to be studied to improve student acceptance, satisfaction, and realization of the value of these strategies in the preparation of elementary teachers.
