contents Developing Effective Interdisciplinary Instruction: Selected Papers from the Annual Conference on Non-Traditional and Interdisciplinary Programs (9th, Virginia Beach, Virginia, May 13-15, 1991). Reithlingshoefer, Sally J., Ed. Adult Students Continuing Education Cooperative Programs Delivery Systems Educational Quality Faculty Evaluation Females Graduate Students Higher Education Instructional Innovation Interdisciplinary Approach Minority Groups Nontraditional Education Nontraditional Students Reading Instruction School Business Relationship Teaching Methods Writing Instruction These selected papers on non-traditional and interdisciplinary programs in higher education take as their theme, developing effective interdisciplinary instruction. The first set of papers which address teaching in interdisciplinary programs describe particular programs, address teaching theory, and examine interdisciplinary teaching in connection with particular subject areas. The next group of papers address meeting the needs of special groups such as minorities, women, non-traditional women graduate students, under prepared students and female prisoners. Several papers examine how to assure academic quality in non-traditional programs with papers describing actual procedures and approaches, or discussing evaluation theory and method. Academic partnerships with business are the subject of nine papers which describe exiting programs or examine the issues that arise in these situations. Program delivery, from advertising programs, to weekend and off campus, and electronic media based programs are the topics of the following seven papers. Three papers address non-traditional approaches to reading and writing, two describe actual approaches and one tackles some of the hermeneutical issues involved. The papers in the final section look at the adult learner and continuing education: how to attract them, their self-direction and library literacy, accommodating transfer students, orientation programs, and profiles of non-traditional adult learners.
