  • Wheels, Wings 'N' Words. 1991 Wisconsin Summer Library Program Manual. Bulletin No. 91293. Roeber, Jane A., Ed. Adolescents Childrens Libraries Creative Activities Elementary Education Films Guidelines Handicrafts Library Services Preadolescents Program Development Public Libraries Reading Programs Resource Materials Summer Programs Videotape Cassettes Young Children This manual is a compilation of materials, plans, and resources contributed by Wisconsin librarians to complement the 1991 summer library program theme, whose transportation focus is intended to convey the spirit of adventure through reading. Chapter One offers basic guidelines to help libraries organize their ideas for planning and promoting programs. Chapter Two provides display and decorating ideas, name tag designs, and bulletin board suggestions. In Chapter Three a collection of brief program suggestions are presented as well as many sample programs and activities, craft ideas, young adult book lists, and a list of suggestions for transportation-related places to visit or distribute information about. Chapter Four includes the theme's clip art, coloring pages, puzzles, and games together with their answer keys. The artists' roster in Chapter Five provides performance information about groups and individuals who might participate in the summer events. The performer evaluation sheet has also been provided. Chapter Six presents a variety of annotated resource lists which include: titles of books which complement those suggested for program use in Chapter Three; titles of videocassettes and films; and resources for hearing and visually impaired children (grades K-6). The guide concludes with ordering information for transportation related catalogs, supply stores, businesses, and products. (MAB)
