Administrative Organization Annual Reports Blindness Federal Aid Library Administration Library Planning Library Services Library Statistics Library Technical Processes Professional Continuing Education Program Effectiveness Public Libraries This annual report highlights the accomplishments of the Alabama Public Library Service (APLS) during 1990. Introductory materials include a map of Alabama's Congressional districts, photographs of the executive board of APLS, and comments from the chairman of the executive board and from APLS' director. Accomplishments are reported under the following headings: (1) Agency Services (i.e., the success of the summer reading program "Al's Summer Splash" which featured an alligator mascot, growth in the production of the Alabama Interlibrary Catalog (ALICAT) and the APLS catalog, the addition of 18 fax machines and a number of computer systems, the production of many more braille items, information dissemination, and the development of a VHS videocassette collection); (2) Circulation; (3) Agency Publications (e.g., APLS catalogs, manuals, guides, and newsletters); (4) Continuing Education; (5) Financial Responsibilities (including a breakdown of the Titles I, II and III grants distribution); and (6) Special Projects (e.g., grants to improve inadequate library and information services and projects which targeted government and non-profit institutions). A chart summarizes monies awarded to public libraries and library systems under Titles II and III of the Library Services Construction Act, and a directory of APLS staff concludes the report. (MAB)
