Teaching strategies offered in the first section of the booklet are designed to stimulate language exploration and include activities where students become acquainted with another student, express themselves through a personalized license plate, take a stand on a controversial issue, find an outlet for expressing criticism, and post their views on books and reading. Included are across the curriculum activities that highlight the role of language and ideas that feature figurative language, concrete descriptions of abstract terms, and taking possession of favorite words.
