Some of the factors likely to influence the nature of future scientific efforts, the evolving relations between universities and industry, the impact of governmental action on short term federal support for research, and some sugestions that the scientific community should consider for action are topics of discussion. The six faculty responses are from the following departments: Program in Social Ecology, School of Biological Sciences, Program in Information and Computer Science, School of Physical Sciences, School of Medicine, and School of Engineering.
