Darnell, Polly Academic Libraries Archives Documentation Higher Education Library Collections Local History Preservation Public Libraries Records Management Regional Programs This report describes the 5-year plan of the Documentary Heritage Program (DHP), which is charged with ensuring that historical records important for documenting Western New York are preserved and are used effectively by researchers. The report is divided into four sections. In the first section the background and structure of the DHP is introduced. The second section describes the present conditions in the region. Included are a brief profile of the region and descriptions of its historical record repositories, existing means for staff training, the type of cooperation among repositories, and the documentation of the region. The third section identifies the uses, and users of, regional historical records, including scholars, students, avocational historians, administrators, other professions, the general public, and genealogists. The fourth section outlines the purpose, goals and objectives, the timetable, and the priorities/program emphases of the 5-year plan. A bibliography of materials available from the DHP lending library is attached. This bibliography includes the titles of books, serial publications, articles, cassettes, and videos which relate to archival management. (MAB)
